For today’s new company profile, we spoke to Dr. Christopher Pinard, CEO of ANI.ML Health Inc. on how he conceptualized this idea and how it’s making a difference for others.

What is ANI.ML?

At ANI.ML we build computational tools for veterinary teams to improve workflow and quality of life.

What inspired this idea?

As a trained veterinary medical oncologist, the administrative burden of day-to-day tasks had certainly taken its toll.

With machine learning and spatial computing, our team felt it was pivotal to build the solutions veterinary teams need to improve their quality of life and improve retention within the profession.

How did you build this?

Our CTO, Dr. Kuan-Chuen Wu, was actually a lecturer for one of my machine learning courses.

We started a project together on evaluating protein folding algorithms in canine proteins, and the ideas started flowing from there. When Kuan and I would discuss the limitations and administrative task burden on clinicians in veterinary medicine, we knew we wanted to build a solution.

What advice would you share with other Founders?

Form relationships with people who you can be honest with, who you enjoy working with, and enjoy the early days!

What has been the hardest part of your journey that’s worth noting?

Our company is not our individual source of income at this point given that we are at an early stage.

Finding the time to ensure we can meet, execute, and evaluate has been a challenge. We also are bootstrapped at this point, but we've been fortunate that we are tackling this challenge with our own clinical platform and revenue stream while giving back to our community.

What advice do you wish you had been given in the early years?

It’s okay to make mistakes, and it’s okay not to know everything.

These things will happen, you will learn, and you will improve. Being part of a supportive team is what you need.
