 🛠️ BUILDERS PERSPECTIVE

In this edition of builders perspective, we explore Melissa Gallagher’s view on Healthcare, and why it will inspire you on your own journey. She’s the CEO and Co-Founder of Alma Care and shared an interesting perspective on how she solved a pretty obvious problem.

When Melissa Gallagher became a new mom, she quickly realized something was missing. Postpartum care in Canada wasn’t set up to fully support new mothers, especially when compared to the way other cultures honour this critical life stage.

From that lived experience, Alma Care was born. Today, Alma Care delivers premium, holistic postpartum support for moms and babies across Ontario. The mission? Better physical and mental health outcomes for mothers, and a smoother transition for the entire family.

Melissa describes her path to founding Alma Care as less about having every answer and more about having the mindset:

“For me, readiness wasn’t about having every answer, it was about having the mindset. I’d spent years sharpening my curiosity, embracing growth, and loving the work itself. When I came across a problem that lit me up—one I couldn’t stop thinking about—I realized I was already prepared. That passion turned readiness into action.”

Her journey hasn’t been without challenges - leading people, balancing empathy and accountability, and carrying the weight of building something deeply personal. But it’s also come with gifts: the opportunity to “dogfood” her own service after the birth of her second daughter, seeing firsthand the impact her team is making for families like hers.

When asked what advice she’d share with other builders, Melissa’s answer is simple but powerful:

“No one builds anything meaningful in isolation. Invest in relationships—with peers, mentors, early believers, and your first customers. Community is fuel: it helps you endure setbacks, sharpens your ideas, and keeps you accountable.”

Key takeaways for today’s builders:

  1. 💡 Alma Care was born from lived experience.

  2. 🤝 Community is her secret weapon. Relationships with peers, mentors, and early believers fuel the journey.

  3. 🚀 She’s on a mission to grow. Alma Care is focused on expanding geographically to make postpartum care more accessible.

Don’t miss Melissa as she takes the stage at Together Toronto on Monday, October 6.
