A whole new world

Weā€™ve heard it time and time again. One-use plastic is one of the top pollutants impacting our climate. There are a multitude of companies and organizations out there working to come up with viable and impactful solutions that are working to solve this problem.

Today, we explore one of those companies. Meet erthos.

What is erthos?

erthosĀ® is a climate technology company specializing in sustainable material design, we focus on rapidly reducing the global dependency on plastics by accelerating the scale and widespread adoption of biomaterials.

At erthosĀ®, they harness the power of AI, biomaterials, and advocacy to reimagine the building blocks of plastics. Through erthosĀ® Studio, their proprietary AI-powered design studio, they develop bespoke biomaterials tailored to the sustainable and functional goals of the world's largest CPGs and material companies. Using their in-house machine learning AI platform, ZYA ā„¢, they've achieved a technological breakthrough that optimizes the material development process five times faster than the industry standard and produces a 92% reduction in material development costs.

Through erthosĀ® Impact, they take an intersectional approach to advocating for more material-consciousness and environmentally just legislation that's representative of all voices.

Under one holistic brand, they strive to build a future free from plastic pollution.

What inspired this?

Aside from an incredible need to support these efforts, erthos Co-Founder had a passion for reducing oceanic plastic pollution transformed into a greater purpose.

Rather than creating alternative plastic product substitutions, they created entirely new sustainable materials known as biomaterials. Today, the mission is to rapidly reduce the global dependency on plastics by accelerating the scale and widespread adoption of biomaterials.

What does the future look like?

As an organization, the team remains focused on building strategic partnerships to design even more biomaterials for sustainable product applications.

More on the Founding team

The Co-Founders, Nuha Siddiqui (CEO), and Kritika Tyagi (Head of Product), met at U of T, and decided to found erthosĀ® when they realized their shared passion for social entrepreneurship within environmentalism.

Both co-founders shared key characteristics like grit and tenacity that, when coupled with their passion for the planet, meant real change was possible.
