Take a mental health day
Today, we introduce Cognito, a Canadian company doing important work in the mental health space.
We often talk about the importance of Founders focusing on their mental health and the mental health of their teams. The entrepreneurial journey is not an easy one and requires dedication in all aspects of life.
We came across a company doing incredibly meaningful work in the mental health space and wanted to highlight the access they are creating for those in need of extra support or who are just curious about other ways to improve their health overall.
Meet Cognito.
What is Cognito?
Cognito is a Canadian online mental health service specializing in the treatment of mild to moderate anxiety, depression, insomnia, and ADHD.
The Core Mental Health Program for Anxiety, Depression, and Insomnia offers:
A clinically validated mental health assessment conducted by a Nurse Practitioner.
Online appointments with a Nurse Practitioner.
Two monthly online sessions with a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Care Provider.
Home delivery of prescription medication.
Consultations with a Pharmacist.
Home delivery of prescription refills.
Regular check-ins with a Nurse Practitioner.
Access to self-guided online courses.
Daily affirmation text messages.
Group therapy sessions.
What inspired this idea?
The founding team acknowledged that the Canadian healthcare system falls short in effectively treating mental health patients. From their extensive experience within this system, they've repeatedly observed a shortage of mental health resources and increasingly long waitlists for mental health services.
At Cognito, they aim to revolutionize mental health care for all Canadians. Their mission is to make mental health care in Canada more:
Accessible
Affordable
Immediate
Integrated
Effective
So in 2021, Cognito was born.
Around 17% of Canadians face mental health challenges. By the age of 40, one in two Canadians will have experienced a mental illness.
Only about half of Canadians suffering from a major depressive episode receive care that could be considered adequate.
Typical wait times for therapy and counseling range from six months to a year. It was time for a change.
Who can currently access this care?
Cognito is available to residents of British Columbia and Ontario who are 17 years or older and experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, insomnia, or ADHD.
