We chat with Saeid Fard, CEO of Dimensional who shares more on how this app can tell you more about yourself, and others.
What is Dimensional?
Dimensional is a social personality testing app, which takes personality tests to the next level. It’s beyond your average high school career placement test, it’s helping you to not only learn about yourself, but learn about others too and help you make new connections.
What inspired you to create this?
I've spent 10 years working in psychometrics and learned how valuable it is when people understand themselves and have a vocabulary and framework to describe their inner world.
I wanted to create a way for people to get to know themselves and their friends on a deeper level. Culturally, gen z also happened to be moving into that direction where they openly talk about things like their anxiety and their vulnerability so it seemed like a good founder/zeitgeist match.
How has it been received by the market?
We have almost a million downloads. We're one of the most popular social apps in Singapore and a part of how people date.
We're like the costar of personality testing there.
What was the biggest hurdle on your journey?
It's cliche but founder life means giving up on a lot of other things to focus on the success of the business. Balance is not a thing for me, nor do I think it should be for a founder.
Having a unified focus in life is in some ways freeing, because it removes choice, but it also means missing out on a lot of other things people with a "normal" job get to do.
What do the next 12 months look like for you?
It’s all about growth.
We've built a product users love (4.9 on the AppStore, 70 NPS) but we've done little to nothing to get the word out. So I'm turning my attention to marketing.
We asked the Founder, what is the best advice you’d share with others?
I don't know if I would have listened at the time, but I wish I knew that products need to be dead simple. At least initially.
As simple as I thought Dimensional was. It could have been even simpler. Consumer products aren't about features. They're about repeatable user behaviors and understanding what the core behavior loops of the product are. It's easier said than done, though, because figuring out what those core behavior loops are is as much art as science.
