Meet today's new startup company
PROFILE
Startup Profile: Futwork
Today we meet Armaan Vanancha, Founder of Futwork. We spoke to him about what he’s building, what inspired the idea, and what valuable insights he’d share with today’s Founders.
What is Futwork?
Futwork is a gig economy-based contact center app, helping to enable work-from-home customer service jobs.
What inspired this idea?
I previously built a student-based product, which we sold to the England-based Student Discount Leader UNiDAYS during the pandemic. We used that momentum to pivot to a bigger opportunity. As work from home became the new norm, we realized the traditional BPO and call center industry was ripe for disruption with an 'Uber for BPOs' approach.
How did you build this?
We built a low-code prototype using cloud telephony APIs and started customer discovery. We found an e-commerce company with 20k orders on hold as shipments were stopped due to pandemic regulations. They needed to contact customers to confirm if they were still interested in the order as shipping opened up. The use case was very straight forward and we were able to go live with no prior experience in this industry. We had goosebumps when we heard the first phone calls between our agents and customers and realized this was a big opportunity.
What advice would you give to other Founders right now?
Sell first, build later and don't be afraid to pivot hard.
How did you know you were ready for Entrepreneurship?
Entrepreneurship fascinated me from a young age and I had lots of ideas I wanted to explore fresh out of college. I was lucky enough to meet amazing cofounders on the way, who helped make the dream real. I studied business, but tech was always an area of interest. I started up in India around the time when internet penetration in the country was really starting to take off - so there were lots of opportunities and a rapidly growing startup ecosystem which meant we had access to incubators, accelerators, and angel investors.
What do the next 12 months look like?
We closed our $2.5m Series A in October and over the next year, our plan is to invest in new product verticals around AI + Human customer service.
We plan to launch inbound tele-calling, chat support, AI calls, and also expand our offering to North American customers.
